Design a sim-racing den — the rig, the trophies, the fridge
A sim-racing rig eats more floor than people expect. The wheel, the seat, and the triple screens come as one 48 × 60 inch footprint — and that's before you count the space it takes to climb out of a fixed bucket seat. This 10×9 plan gives the rig the middle of the floor with 30 inches of exit room behind the seat, hangs the trophies top-left, parks the pit fridge on the right wall, and leaves a spectator seat where the racing is visible and the elbows aren't.
On a product page a racing rig looks like a chair with a wheel. On the floor it's a 4 × 5 foot machine — seat, pedal deck, wheel base, and triple screens in one rigid footprint — and unlike a chair, you can't push it in when you're done. The number that catches people out isn't the rig itself; it's the 30 inches behind the seat you need to swing a leg out of a fixed bucket and stand up. Skip that, and every session ends with a climb over the side rail.

Give the rig the middle of the floor
Search Driving Simulator and place it in the center of the room's width, screens facing the top wall. The rig is 48″ × 60″; centered on a 10-foot wall it leaves an even 36-inch strip down each side, and the screen end can sit about 18 inches off the wall — that gap is where the cables live, not walking space.

Keep 30 inches behind the seat
Slide the rig up or down until there are 30 inches between the seat back and the bottom wall. That's the exit lane: enough room to swing a leg over the seat bolster, stand, and step aside — and it's the first thing that disappears when a rig gets pushed into a corner to "save space." On this plan the lane runs the full width of the room, so the door side stays reachable too.

The trophy shelf, top-left
Search Tall Bookshelf and stand it against the left wall at the screen end of the room — the top-left corner. It's only 12 inches deep, so it takes a foot off the 36-inch left strip and still leaves about two feet between the shelf face and the rig. At 84 inches tall it holds trophies, wheels, and spare rims at eye level, up out of the driver's elbow room.

Pit supplies on the right wall
Search Mini Fridge and set it against the right wall toward the back corner, level with the exit lane. The rig ends 30 inches before the bottom wall, so the 24″ × 24″ fridge sits fully behind the seat line — one step from the driver between stints, and never in the strip beside the wheel.

A spectator seat, bottom-left
Search Small Bean Bag and drop it in the bottom-left corner, turned toward the screens. From there the spectator watches the race over the driver's shoulder, with the whole rig between them and the wheel — 30 inches of bean bag in the one corner nothing else needs.

Prove it in 3D
Switch to 3D and sit where the driver sits. Check the triple screens against the top wall, walk the exit lane from the seat back to the door, and confirm the bookshelf doesn't loom over the wheel and the fridge door can open without hitting the rig. If the lane feels tight on the plan, it's tighter with a helmet on.

Tips
The diagonal looks cool and costs you the room
Turning the rig 45° across a corner is tempting — it photographs well. But a 48×60 rig on the diagonal needs a clear square about 77 inches on a side, and it converts both tidy 36-inch wall strips into unusable triangles. Keep the rig square to the walls and the Tall Bookshelf, fridge, and spectator seat all keep their spots.
Route the cables along the screen wall
The 18-inch gap between the screens and the top wall is the cable trench: power, video, and USB all run sideways along that wall to one outlet corner. Keep every cable at the screen end of the room and nothing crosses the exit lane — the one place a stray cable will actually trip someone.
The exit lane is also your VR standing room
If you race in VR, the 30-inch strip behind the seat is where you'll stand to put the headset on and where you'll step when you bail out of it. Keep that lane empty of bins and spare gear — it's doing two jobs, and both of them need bare floor.
Common mistakes
Backing the rig against a wall
Pushing the seat to the wall frees floor in front you don't need and removes the 30 inches behind the seat you do. A fixed bucket seat is entered and exited from behind and beside — with no lane, every session starts with a climb over the rail. Center the rig and protect the strip.
Parking anything in the exit lane
The strip behind the seat reads as free space on a plan, and that's exactly where storage tends to creep. The fridge belongs at the lane's right end against the wall — not mid-lane — and the bean bag stays in the bottom-left corner. The middle of the lane stays bare floor from seat back to door.
Forgetting the real room has a door
The plan's 10×9 zone is open, but your actual room isn't — a door swinging into the exit lane can pin the fridge or sweep the bean bag's corner. Mark the real door on your plan and let its swing arc claim its quarter-circle before you commit the back wall.
