Hang your own photos in picture frames and canvases
Add a picture frame or canvas from the catalog and tap a wall to hang it. Select it, tap Choose photo, upload a photo (or pick one you uploaded before) and it shows in the frame in 3D. Landscape / Portrait, Tilt and Other side fine-tune how it hangs.
Planning a gallery wall, or checking that a family photo works above the sofa? RoomSketch3D has real-size picture frames (8×10″ up to 24×36″, portrait and landscape) and canvases that hang on your walls, and a private Picture Gallery that keeps your own photos for them.
What you'll need
- •A design with walls
- •A JPG, PNG or WebP photo up to 10 MB
Step by step
- 1
Add a frame or canvas
In the furniture panel, search picture frame or canvas (or open the Picture Frames & Wall Art section). Pick a size: Picture Frame 8×10″ up to 24×36″ and its 36×24″ landscape twin, or a canvas (24×36″, 36×24″, 30×30″). A frame's size is the outside of the frame: the photo size plus a 1″ moulding each side. Tap the tile, then Add. The note says …: tap a wall to place it; tap the wall it hangs on.

Select it and tap Choose photo
Tap the frame to open its panel. The first row of controls is just for frames and canvases: - Choose photo (it reads Change photo once a photo is in, with a thumbnail). - Landscape | Portrait: hang it wider than tall or taller than wide. The photo stays upright and is re-cropped to fit; the frame stays centred at the same height. (A square canvas has no Landscape / Portrait.) - Tilt: the arrows turn it 5° at a time flat against the wall, the box takes any angle from −180° to 180°, and 0°, 45°, 90° are one tap. - Other side: hang it on the other face of the same wall, in the room next door or on the outside of the house. Mount sets how high it hangs, Color is the frame colour (a canvas's sides), and the size boxes change its width and height.

Upload or pick a photo
Choose a photo opens your Picture Gallery. Tap a photo to put it in this frame, or tap Upload photo to add a new one from your computer, phone or tablet (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB; iPhone HEIC photos work in the iPhone and iPad app and in Safari). The photo fills the frame's opening, cropped to fit rather than stretched, and shows on the wall in 3D. Remove photo from this frame puts the plain print back. On the 2D plan a frame is drawn as a thin line on its wall; the photo itself shows in 3D.
Choose a photo: pick one, or Upload photo. - 4
Check the frame's panel
Once a photo is in, the frame's first button reads Change photo with a small thumbnail of the photo, so you can tell at a glance which picture hangs where. Tap it to swap the photo or remove it. Landscape | Portrait re-crops the same photo when you turn the frame.
With a photo in, the button reads Change photo and shows a thumbnail. - 5
See it on the wall in 3D
Open View in 3D and look at the wall, or use Walk through (the footsteps button) and stand in the room. The photo fills the frame's opening, cropped to the frame's shape rather than stretched. Here a 36×24″ frame hangs over a queen bed at the default Mount of 3′ 8″.

Manage your photos in the Picture Gallery
To upload several photos first, or delete some, open the gallery on its own: on a computer, the Materials tab at the top of the left panel → Picture Gallery (Your photos for picture frames); on a phone, the Materials button → Picture Gallery tab. Upload there, then select each frame and Choose photo. Deleting a photo asks first (Delete this photo? Frames showing it go blank.) and removes it from every frame that used it. You can keep up to 200 photos.
Materials → Picture Gallery.
Tips
Plan a gallery wall to scale
Hang several frames on one wall, give them different Mount heights, and check the spacing in 3D before you put a nail in. Duplicate in the frame's panel copies a frame with its size and colour.
Tilt from the keyboard
On a computer, with a frame selected, R tilts it 5° clockwise and Shift+R 5° back. See Keyboard shortcuts.
Mirrors, TVs and shelves tilt too
Tilt and Other side work on anything hung on a wall, not just frames. Only frames and canvases take a photo.
Common mistakes
Looking for Choose photo on other wall decor
Choose photo appears only for the picture frames and canvases in Picture Frames & Wall Art. Mirrors, TVs and other decor don't take your photos.
Expecting the photo in a shared link
Your photos are private. People viewing a shared or public link see the frames with a plain print, not your photos.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put my own photo on the wall of my design?
Yes. Add a picture frame or canvas, tap a wall to hang it, select it and tap Choose photo, then upload or pick a photo. It shows in the frame in 3D.
Who can see my photos?
Only you. They aren't shown on shared links, and deleting a photo removes it from your designs.
What size and type of photo can I upload?
JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each, and up to 200 photos in your gallery. iPhone HEIC photos upload from the iPhone and iPad app and from Safari; in other browsers, save the photo as a JPG first. If a photo can't be read, the gallery says This photo can't be opened. Please use a JPG, PNG or WebP photo.
My photo is cut off at the edges. Why?
The photo is cropped to fill the frame's opening, like a print cut to size, so a wide photo in a portrait frame loses its sides. Switch the frame to Landscape, or pick a frame whose shape matches the photo.
How do I turn a landscape frame to portrait?
Select it and tap Portrait. The frame swaps width and height and stays level; 90° under Tilt turns it instead, as if you rotated it on its nail.
Can I hang a picture on the other side of a wall?
Yes. Select it and tap Other side: it moves to the other face of the same wall.
Does it work on a phone and tablet?
Yes. Frames and the Choose photo button work the same; the Picture Gallery is a tab under the Materials button. Upload straight from your photo library.
