Add a life-size person to see how big things really are

Numbers on a plan are hard to picture. Put a life-size person in the room, set them to your own height, and you can see at a glance how a sofa, a hallway or a ceiling compares to a real body, on the plan and in 3D.

A 7-foot sofa or a 36-inch walkway is easy to type and hard to imagine. Person for scale puts a life-size person on your plan so you can see the size of things against a body: how much of the wall the sofa takes, whether two people pass in the hallway, how tall the ceiling feels in 3D.

The person is only a viewing aid. It is saved with your design, so it is still there next time you open it, but it never shows up in prints, PNG or PDF exports, shared links, Render Studio photos or AI renders. You can leave it on the plan while you work.

What you'll need

  • •A design open in the editor, on a computer, tablet or phone

Step by step

  1. 1

Open Furnish and tap Person for scale

Open the Furnish panel (on a phone, the Furnish sheet) and stay on the Indoor → All tab. Person for scale is the blue tile at the top, above the furniture: See how big a room or a piece of furniture really is. You can also type person, human, man, woman or mannequin in the search box; it works in every language the app speaks. Tap the tile and the person lands in the middle of the part of the plan you're looking at, already selected, with a short blue ripple so you can spot it.

Furnish → All: Person for scale sits at the top.
  2. 2

Set the height, arms and direction

While the person is selected, its panel shows: - Height: tap it and type any height from 3 to 7 feet (about 91 to 213 cm). It starts at 5′ 7″ (170 cm), an average adult. Once you change it, a ↺ button next to it puts it back (Reset to average height). - Arms: Down or Out. With arms out, the panel shows the Span, fingertip to fingertip, which matches the height, just like a real person. - Turn: each tap turns the person 45°; the number shows which way it faces. - The red trash can (Remove person) takes it off the plan. Pressing Delete on a keyboard does the same. The note under the panel is a reminder: Only for checking scale — never in prints, exports or shared links.

Height, Arms Down | Out (with the span), Turn and Remove.
  3. 3

Drag the person next to what you're checking

Drag the person anywhere on the plan; it moves in 1-inch steps. Stand it beside the sofa, in the hallway or in a doorway. When it's selected, a label above it shows its height (5′ 7″ tall). A small mark on its front shows which way it faces.

Stand the person beside the piece you want to judge.
  4. 4

Stretch the arms out to measure a gap

Tap Out and the person holds both arms straight out. The label reads 5′ 7″ tall · arm span 5′ 7″. It's a quick way to feel a width: here the arm span covers most of a 7-foot sofa, and you can see whether a walkway is wide enough to pass with your arms full.

Arms out: the span equals the height.
  5. 5

See it full height in 3D

Switch to 3D and the person stands full height in the room, a plain grey figure with no face. Orbit around it to compare it with the furniture, the windows and the ceiling. It shows in walkthrough too. The small 3D preview on the plan doesn't show it.

In 3D the person stands full height beside the sofa.

Tips

Use your own height

Type your own height (or that of whoever uses the room most). A kitchen counter, a loft bed or a sloped ceiling makes much more sense against the person it's for.

Add more than one

Tap the tile again for another person: two people side by side show whether a hallway or the space beside a bed is wide enough for both.

Leave it on the plan

It never prints or exports, so there's nothing to remove before you share a link or download a PDF.

Common mistakes

Looking for it in the Living Room or Bedroom tab

The tile shows on the All tab of Indoor. On any other tab, type person in the search box instead.

Expecting it in the picture you share

Prints, PNG and PDF exports, shared links, Save image in 3D, Render Studio and AI renders all leave the person out on purpose. To show someone the person, share your screen or a screenshot.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a human figure or person silhouette for scale?

Yes. Open Furnish, stay on Indoor → All, and tap Person for scale at the top (or search person or human). It's a life-size figure you can drag around the plan and see full height in 3D.

How tall is the person?

It starts at 5′ 7″ (170 cm), an average adult. Select it and type any height from 3 to 7 feet in Height. The ↺ button puts it back to the average.

Will the person show up when I print, export or share?

No. It's only for checking scale on your screen. It's left out of prints, PNG and PDF exports, shared links, the 3D Save image, Render Studio photos and AI renders. It is saved with your design, so it's still there when you come back.

Can I make it a child or a tall person?

Yes, by height: anything from 3 to 7 feet. The figure itself stays the same neutral grey mannequin; only its size changes.

How do I remove it?

Select it and tap the red trash can (Remove person), or press Delete on a keyboard.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The tile is at the top of the Furnish sheet's All tab, and the person's panel opens at the bottom of the screen with the same Height, Arms and Turn controls.
