Shower heads, niches, drains and other bathroom fittings
Search "shower head", "niche" or "drain" in the furniture panel. Shower heads and controls go on a wall, a recessed niche cuts into the wall with its own tile and shelf, and drains sit on the shower floor — all in 2D and 3D.
A bathroom plan is more than a toilet, a vanity and a shower box. RoomSketch3D has the fittings that make the shower real — and they're quickest to find by searching for them by name.

What you'll need
- •A design with a bathroom
Step by step
- 1
Drains: search "drain"
In the furniture panel (Indoor tab), type drain. You get Shower Drain (5" square), Linear Drain 24" and Linear Drain 36" for the shower floor, and the Floor Drain symbol (6" × 6") for a drain anywhere else — a laundry, a wet room, under a freestanding tub. The Floor Drain also lives in the Symbols tab under plumbing. Tap a tile, then +Add, and drag it into place on the shower floor.
Search "drain": three shower drains, plus the Floor Drain symbol. - 2
Shower heads and controls: search "shower head"
Type shower head for the whole Shower Fixtures group. These hang on a wall: tap one, then +Add, then tap the wall inside the shower. It lands flat against that wall, facing into the room, at the usual height — change the height in its settings. Using a ready-made shower but placing your own head? Select the shower and switch off Built-in shower head so you don't get two.
Search "shower head": heads, hand showers, controls, tub spout and tub filler. - 3
Shower niche: search "niche", then tap a wall
Type niche, tap Shower Niche 12×24 (tall) or Shower Niche 24×12 (wide), then +Add, and tap the wall where it goes. A niche is recessed into the wall, like a window that doesn't go through.
Pick a niche, tap +Add, then tap the wall. - 4
Set the niche's size, sill, shelf and tile
Select the niche to set Width, Height, Depth (how far it goes into the wall) and Sill (how high its bottom sits above the floor). In / Out picks which face of the wall it opens on, Shelf adds a shelf across the middle, and Tile picks the lining colour. On a thin wall the depth is limited so an inch of wall stays behind it.
Niche settings: size, depth, sill height, which side, shelf and tile. - 5
Check it all in 3D
Open 3D (tick Dollhouse to see inside a small room). The niche is tiled with a stone sill and its shelf, the head sits on the wall, and the drain is on the shower floor. To give every tap, head, bar and glass fitting the same metal, select one and use Fixture finish → Match all.

Tips
Put the niche on a wall you're not looking through
Niches usually go on the wall opposite the glass or the side wall, at about 44–54 in to the sill — out of the direct spray and easy to reach.
Drains are a plumbing decision
Moving a drain means moving pipes in the floor. Place the drain exactly where you want it and export the plan for the plumber — a linear drain along the back wall is what makes a curbless shower work.
Start from a bathroom template

Common mistakes
Two shower heads in a ready-made shower
A ready-made shower already shows a head and control. If you add your own fixtures, select the shower and switch off Built-in shower head.
Looking for the niche under shelves
It's a wall feature in the Shower Build group — search niche, or wall niche / shampoo shelf.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the floor drain symbol?
Search drain in the furniture panel, or open the Symbols tab — Floor Drain, 6" × 6", in the plumbing symbols. For the shower floor itself there are Shower Drain, Linear Drain 24" and Linear Drain 36".
Can I add a shower head on its own?
Yes — Shower Head, Rain Shower Head (Wall Arm) and Rain Shower Head (Ceiling), plus hand showers and controls. Search shower head, tap +Add, then tap the wall.
Can I add a recessed shower niche?
Yes — Shower Niche 12×24 or 24×12. Search niche, tap +Add, tap the wall, then set width, height, depth, sill height, shelf and tile colour.
Can I change the metal finish of the taps and shower fittings?
Yes: chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, brass, bronze or white. Select a fitting and pick its Fixture finish; Match all applies it to the whole bathroom.
Can I build a shower from parts instead of using a ready-made one?
Yes. Use a Shower Base (or just tile the floor), a Shower Curb, Glass Shower Panels and a Glass Shower Door, then add a head, control, drain, niche and seat.
What if the fitting I need isn't there?
Use the Custom tile in any group to make a piece at the exact size you type, or Request this item when a search finds nothing.
