Choose the tile on your shower walls

Select a shower and tap **Wall tile** to pick one of nine tiles: subway, porcelain, Carrara or Crema marble, travertine, terrazzo, patterned tile, checkerboard or concrete. The 3D view shows it in its real colours at real tile size. A tiled bench, seat or curb inside the shower takes the same tile unless you give it its own.

Marble or subway tile? Warm travertine or bold checkerboard? Before you buy a single box of tile, try them all on your own shower and see which one you like in the room.

Wall tile works on the ready-made showers (Shower Stall 32", 36" and 48", Neo-Angle Shower, Walk-in Shower 48" and 60", Tub/Shower Combo) and on the tiled parts you can build a shower from: Shower Curb, Shower Bench and Corner Shower Seat. It changes the shower's own walls, not the walls of the room. To change those, use the room's wall finishes.

The screenshots use a small bathroom with a Walk-in Shower 60" and a Shower Bench inside it.

What you'll need

  • •A design with a ready-made shower (Shower Stall, Neo-Angle, Walk-in or Tub/Shower Combo), or a tiled Shower Curb, Shower Bench or Corner Shower Seat

Step by step

  1. 1

Select the shower and find Wall tile

Tap the shower on the plan. In its panel, Wall tile sits between Fixture finish and Color. Before you choose anything it says Tinted subway: the classic subway tile, coloured by the shower's Color. That's how every shower looked before this option existed, so showers already in your designs look exactly the same until you pick a tile. On a phone, tap More options in the item's panel first.

Wall tile is in the shower's panel. "Tinted subway" means no tile has been picked yet.
  2. 2

Pick a tile and tap Apply

Tap Wall tile to open the gallery. Tap a tile to choose it (it gets a blue border), then tap Apply. Nothing changes until you tap Apply, so you can look through them all first. To back out, close the gallery with the ×. The choices are Subway Tile, Porcelain, Carrara Marble, Crema Marble, Travertine, Terrazzo, Patterned Tile, Checkerboard and Concrete. Tinted subway, the first card, takes you back to the classic look.

    Tap a tile, then Apply.
  3. 3

    See it in 3D

Open 3D. The shower's walls show the tile in its real colours and at its real size, so a big marble slab reads as a slab and small patterned tiles read as small tiles. The tile's own colours are used: the shower's Color no longer tints it. Here is the same shower with each choice, from the same spot:

Every wall tile on the same Walk-in Shower 60". The bench inside follows the shower.
  4. 4

A bench, seat or curb inside the shower matches it

A Shower Bench, Corner Shower Seat or Shower Curb standing inside a shower takes the shower's tile automatically, as long as you haven't given it a tile of its own. Its top stays a marble cap, like a real tiled bench. In the views above, the bench changes along with the walls. "Inside" means the middle of the bench is within the shower's outline on the plan. A bench pushed half outside the shower keeps its own look.

Carrara Marble on the walls, and the bench follows.
  5. 5

Give the bench its own tile

Tap the bench. Because it sits on top of the shower, the editor asks which one you mean with a small Select item list: tap Shower Bench.

Bench and shower overlap, so the editor asks which one you mean.
  6. 6

    Pick the bench's tile

The bench's panel has its own Wall tile. It says Tinted subway while the bench has no tile of its own, even though it shows the shower's tile in 3D. Tap it, pick a tile and tap Apply. From then on the bench keeps that tile, whatever you do to the shower. To make it follow the shower again, pick Tinted subway.

The bench's own Wall tile. "Tinted subway" here means it follows the shower it stands in.
  7. 7

    Check the result

Open 3D again. Here the walls are Carrara Marble and the bench has its own Travertine.

Tips

Built your shower from parts? Tile each part

A shower made from a Shower Curb, glass panels and a Shower Bench (like the one in the Master Bathroom template) has no shower around the parts for them to follow. Give the curb, bench and corner seat a Wall tile each; pick the same one on all of them for a matching set. The shower's back walls there are the room's walls, so change them with the room's wall finishes.

Compare tiles quickly

The 3D view opens where you last left the camera. Line up a view of the shower once, then switch tiles and reopen 3D: every tile is shown from the same spot, which makes side-by-side choices easy.

Try it with the fittings

Tile and metal go together. Select the shower and set its Fixture finish (chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, brass, bronze or white) to see the whole look. See shower heads, niches and drains.

Common mistakes

Tapping a colour after picking a tile

A picked tile shows in its own colours. Tapping a Color on the shower switches it back to the tinted subway tile in that colour. To keep your tile, leave Color alone.

Looking for Wall tile on the room's walls

Wall tile belongs to the shower and its tiled parts. It doesn't tile the walls of the room around it.

Expecting the bench's panel to name the shower's tile

A bench that follows its shower still reads Tinted subway in its own panel. Check the 3D view to see what it shows.

Frequently asked questions

Which tiles can I choose for a shower?

Nine: Subway Tile, Porcelain, Carrara Marble, Crema Marble, Travertine, Terrazzo, Patterned Tile, Checkerboard and Concrete, plus the classic Tinted subway, which takes the shower's Color.

Which showers have Wall tile?

Shower Stall 32", 36" and 48", Neo-Angle Shower, Walk-in Shower 48" and 60", and Tub/Shower Combo, plus the tiled parts: Shower Curb, Shower Bench and Corner Shower Seat.

Will my existing showers change?

No. A shower keeps the tinted subway look it always had until you pick a tile for it.

Is the tile shown at its real size?

Yes. Tiles are drawn at their real size in 3D, so the pattern repeats the way it would on a real wall, even on a wide walk-in shower.

Can the bench have a different tile from the shower walls?

Yes. Select the bench (choose it in the Select item list if the shower is under it), tap its Wall tile, pick a tile and tap Apply. Pick Tinted subway to make it follow the shower again.

Can I upload my own tile photo?

Not today. Pick the closest of the nine tiles. For an exact product, an AI Render of the room can help you picture it.
