Add a freestanding wood stove, hearth pad and log holder

Yes, you can plan a freestanding wood stove. Search "wood stove" in the furniture panel: three stoves, two hearth pads and a log holder, each at its real size, with a working fire and chimney pipe in 3D.

A freestanding wood stove isn't built into a wall like a fireplace — it stands in the room on a fireproof hearth pad, with a chimney pipe going up through the ceiling. In RoomSketch3D it's a piece you place from the furniture panel, not a tile in the Build panel.

The set (called Wood Stoves & Hearth in the catalog) has six pieces: - Wood Stove (Classic) — cast iron, 26" × 24", 31" tall - Wood Stove (Modern) — tall, with a log store underneath, 22" × 20", 44" tall - Pot-Belly Stove — round, 22" across, 36" tall - Hearth Pad (Square) — 48" × 48" - Hearth Pad (Extended) — 40" × 56" - Firewood Log Holder — 18" × 12", 28" tall Need a different size? Every one can be resized after you place it, and the Custom tile in the same group makes a piece at any size you type.

What you'll need

  • •A design with a room to put the stove in

Step by step

  1. 1

Search "wood stove" in the furniture panel

In the panel on the right, stay on the Indoor tab and type wood stove in Search Furniture & Fixtures. These words work too: log burner, wood burner, pot belly, hearth, hearth pad, stove board, firewood. (A plain stove also lists kitchen ranges.) Browsing instead? Pick the Living Room (or Recreation Room) chip and scroll to Wood Stoves & Hearth.

Search "wood stove" — the Wood Stoves & Hearth group comes up first.
  2. 2

Put the hearth pad down first, then the stove on it

Tap Hearth Pad (Square) or Hearth Pad (Extended), then +Add, and drag it where the stove goes. Then add the stove the same way and drag it onto the pad — the pad sits underneath like a rug, and in 3D the stove stands on top of it. Add the Firewood Log Holder beside it if you like. The Extended pad is longer at the front, for the ember zone in front of the loading door. Turn the stove (and pad) with the rotate control to angle it into a corner.

Spacious Living Room template: a classic stove on a square hearth pad, angled into the corner, log holder beside it.
  3. 3

Set where the chimney pipe ends (optional)

Select the stove. Its settings show Chimney top (from floor): by default the pipe runs up through the ceiling and out above the roof, and under a vaulted ceiling it meets the slope right where it passes through. Type a height to end it somewhere else; tap Auto to put it back.

Chimney top (from floor) — leave it on its automatic height unless you need a specific one.
  4. 4

    See it in 3D

Open the 3D view: the fire burns behind the glass door and gives the room a warm glow, and the chimney pipe goes up through the ceiling.

Tips

Keep the front clear

Allow about 36 inches clear in front of the loading door — the usual distance for combustible furniture — and keep sofas, rugs and baskets out of it. The tape measure in the toolbar is a quick way to check the gap on your plan.

Check your stove's real clearances

Clearance to walls and furniture depends on the stove model and local code. Look up your stove's manual and size the hearth pad and distances to match — the plan is the place to check they fit.

Corner placements

A stove angled 45° into a corner, on a square pad, uses the least floor space and leaves both walls free.

Common mistakes

Looking for it in the Build panel

The Build panel's Fireplace tile is for fireplaces built into a wall. A freestanding stove is furniture — search for it in the furniture panel.

Searching just "stove"

"Stove" also means a kitchen range, so you'll see cookers too. Search wood stove or log burner to get straight to the wood stoves.

Frequently asked questions

Does RoomSketch3D have freestanding wood stoves?

Yes — Wood Stove (Classic), Wood Stove (Modern) and Pot-Belly Stove, plus Hearth Pad (Square), Hearth Pad (Extended) and a Firewood Log Holder. Search wood stove in the furniture panel.

Can I change the size of a wood stove or hearth pad?

Yes. Select it and type a new width, depth or height. For a completely different piece, use the Custom tile in the same group.

Does the chimney go through the roof in 3D?

Yes. The pipe goes up through the ceiling and out above the roof, and follows a vaulted ceiling's slope where it passes through. Select the stove and use Chimney top (from floor) to end it at a specific height; Auto puts it back.

Is there a pellet stove?

There's no separate pellet-stove model. Wood Stove (Modern) is the closest shape (search "pellet stove" finds it); resize it to your model's dimensions.

Where are built-in fireplaces?

In the Build panel: the Fireplace tile, with Regular, Corner and Dual. See fireplaces and openings.
