Plan a workshop with real shop tools
Garage, shed or basement shop: the Shop Tools section has 26 pieces at real size — saws, drill presses, planer, jointer, lathe, dust collection, compressor, welder, racks — and benchtop tools sit right on your workbench. Search "workshop", "woodworking" or "shed".
A workshop is planned around the machines: where the table saw goes so a full sheet can pass through it, where the dust collector can reach, where the bench sits. RoomSketch3D's Shop Tools section has the machines at their real footprints, so you can find out whether it all fits before you move anything heavy.
What's in Shop Tools (26 pieces): Cabinet Table Saw, Jobsite Table Saw, Miter Saw, Miter Saw Station, Floor Drill Press, Benchtop Drill Press, Band Saw, Router Table, Jointer, Benchtop Planer, Wood Lathe, Scroll Saw, Belt & Disc Sander, Bench Grinder, Bench Vise, Air Compressor, Dust Collector, Shop Vac, Welder on Cart, Sawhorse Pair, Step Ladder 6ft, Rolling Shop Stool, Wall Lumber Rack, Clamp Rack, Anvil on Stand and Engine Hoist. Alongside them in the Garage group: Workbenches (Small, 6ft, 8ft, Corner, Folding, Workshop Setup), Tool Storage (tool chests and cabinets, pegboard, slat wall) and garage shelving.
What you'll need
- •A garage, shed or room to plan (a plain rectangle is fine)
Step by step
- 1
Open the Garage group (or search "workshop")
In the furniture panel pick the Garage chip: Workbenches come first, then Shop Tools, then Tool Storage. Or just search — workshop, woodworking, wood shop, shed, power tools, or a tool's name like table saw, drill press or dust collector. Want to see the whole section at once? Tap the expand icon at the top of the panel to open the full catalog and choose Garage.
Full catalog → Garage → Shop Tools, each tile with its real size. - 2
Search by what you're building
A search for workshop lists the shop tools, workbenches and tool storage together. shed brings up the garden Shed (for a yard plan) followed by workbenches and tool storage.
Search "workshop". - 3
Place the bench first, then the machines
Add a workbench along a wall, then the big machines. Tap a tile, +Add, and drag it into place; type a rotation to turn it. Leave working room around each machine — infeed and outfeed on the table saw, space to walk round the bench. Wall Lumber Rack and Clamp Rack hang on the wall above the bench (set their Mount height).

Benchtop tools sit on the bench
Drag a Miter Saw, Benchtop Drill Press, Benchtop Planer, Scroll Saw, Belt & Disc Sander, Bench Grinder or Bench Vise onto a workbench and it sits on the bench top in 3D — also on a table, a desk or a tool cabinet. A Top Tool Chest stacks on a Rolling Tool Cabinet the same way.

Walk round it in 3D
Open 3D to check the room really works — each tool is drawn to look like itself, so you can see whether the table saw blocks the band saw or the lumber rack hangs over the bench.

Tips
Give the table saw its run
Ripping a full 8-ft sheet needs about 8 ft in front of the blade and 8 ft behind it. Put the saw in the middle of the room, or line it up with the garage door so long boards can go out the opening.
Dust collector near the dustiest machines
Put the dust collector close to the table saw, planer and jointer to keep hose runs short. A shop vac on the floor by the bench covers the benchtop tools.
Plan the power too
Add outlets (and a 240V outlet for big machines) from the Symbols tab so the electrician sees where every tool plugs in.
Common mistakes
Forgetting the car
If the shop shares the garage with a car, add the vehicle from the Garage group too and check the machines still fit with the car parked.
Machines tight to the wall
A machine's footprint is only the machine — leave room to stand at it and feed the work.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a table saw, drill press or lathe?
Yes: Cabinet Table Saw (70" × 40"), Jobsite Table Saw, Floor Drill Press, Benchtop Drill Press and Wood Lathe (56" × 18"), among 26 shop tools. Search the tool's name or workshop.
Is there a dust collector, air compressor or welder?
Yes — Dust Collector, Air Compressor, Shop Vac and Welder on Cart are all in Shop Tools.
Can I put a benchtop tool on my workbench?
Yes. Drag the miter saw, benchtop drill press, planer, scroll saw, sander, grinder or vise onto a workbench, table, desk or tool cabinet and it sits on top in 3D.
Can I plan a shed workshop?
Yes. Draw the shed as a room at its real size (any shape), then furnish it from the Garage group. Searching shed also finds garden sheds if you're placing one in a yard plan.
My machine isn't in the list.
Select the closest one and type your machine's width, depth and height, or use the Custom tile. If a search finds nothing, Request this item tells me what to add.
