“My design didn't save” — understanding offline behavior
If a change didn't seem to stick, here's how to read the sync indicator and what's actually going on.
RoomSketch3D has no Save button because every change is written to your account as you make it. What you do have is the cloud icon at the top right of the editor — the save indicator. Its colour tells you, at a glance, whether the last change is already in the cloud, still on its way, waiting for a connection, or stuck.
This page reads the indicator state by state, shows what happens to edits you make while offline, and what to do on the rare occasion it turns red.
Step by step
- 1
Find the save indicator
It's the small cloud at the top right of the editor toolbar, just left of the Indoor / Outdoor / Symbols tabs. Hover it and the tooltip names the current state. A grey cloud means every change is already saved and nothing is pending — the state you'll see most of the time.
- 2
Make a change and watch it save
Add a piece from the catalog, or move one. The cloud is replaced by a spinner for a moment — 'Saving…' — while the change is written, then a green cloud: 'Saved to cloud'. That green cloud is your confirmation: the design is on your account and will open in this state on any device you sign in on. You never need to wait for it before making the next change; saves queue in order.
- 3
Working offline — the amber cloud
Lose the connection and keep working. The indicator becomes an amber cloud with a slash — 'Offline — will sync when online'. Every edit you make is kept on this device, in order. Nothing is discarded and nothing needs re-doing; just don't sign out or clear the browser while it's amber, because the queue lives on the device until it can be sent.
- 4
Back online — the queue is written
As soon as the connection returns the queued edits are sent and the indicator goes through the spinner to green again. There's nothing to press. If you had the same design open on another device meanwhile, the last write wins — so finish on one device before picking up on the other.
- 5
Refreshing or closing mid-save
If you refresh or close the tab while a save is still in flight, the app sends the change on the way out. If it couldn't confirm that it arrived, the next time the design opens you'll see a green banner — Recovered unsaved changes from your last session — and the edit is reapplied. It's safe to reload at any point.
- 6
If the cloud turns red
A red cloud — 'Save failed — will retry' — means the request reached the network but was rejected or timed out, and the app is retrying on its own. The usual cause is a network that blocks the request (hotel or office Wi‑Fi, a proxy, a content filter): switch between Wi‑Fi and cellular and it normally clears within a few seconds. If it stays red, keep the tab open (the change is still on the device), export the design as JSON as a backup, and email roomsketch3d@immex.tech with the design name.
Tips
Green is the only state that matters before you leave
Grey or green: everything's saved. Amber or a spinner: give it a moment or reconnect. Red: read the last step.
Keep a copy before a big change
Duplicate the design from the dashboard, or export it as JSON. Undo covers the session; a copy covers you across sessions.
Common mistakes
Signing out while the cloud is amber
Queued offline edits live on the device. Sign out or clear site data before they're sent and they're gone. Wait for green first.
Editing the same design on two devices at once
Both sync, but the last write wins. Work on one device at a time; the other picks it up within seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to manually save?
No. Every change is saved as you make it. The cloud icon shows the state; there is no Save button.
What if I lose internet while editing?
Keep working. The indicator turns amber, your edits are kept on the device in order, and they're sent automatically when you're back online.
How do I know the latest version is saved?
The cloud icon is grey or green. Hover it and the tooltip reads 'All changes saved' or 'Saved to cloud'.
What happens if I close the tab or the app while it's still saving?
The app sends the change as the page unloads. If it couldn't confirm it, the design reopens with a 'Recovered unsaved changes' banner and reapplies the edit.
Can I keep a version before I change it?
Duplicate the design first (dashboard → copy icon, or + → Duplicate in the editor). Edits to the copy don't touch the original.
The cloud is red and stays red — what now?
Switch networks (Wi‑Fi ↔ cellular). Keep the tab open so the pending change stays on the device, export a JSON backup, and email support with the design name.
