Browser support and performance tips
Which browsers we recommend, and a few quick fixes if things feel sluggish — especially in the 3D view.
RoomSketch3D runs in any current browser on Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebooks — the same editor you get in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. The 2D plan is light; the 3D view uses your graphics chip, so a large multi-floor plan on an older laptop is where you might notice a slowdown.
This page lists what's supported, then shows the four things that make a big plan fast again: trimming layers in 2D, turning off shadows and high quality in 3D, closing the 3D view when you're back to editing, and what to do if the browser ever takes the graphics away from the page.

Supported browsers
Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox — the current version and the one before it. Brave, Arc, Vivaldi and Opera are Chromium-based and work the same as Chrome. Internet Explorer is not supported. On phones and tablets, use the apps rather than the mobile browser: the app runs the 3D view natively and is noticeably faster. WebGL must be enabled (it is by default in all of these).

2D: hide the layers you don't need
Open Layers in the canvas toolbar. Every row is something drawn on top of the plan — dimension lines, room labels, furniture labels and dimensions, alignment guides, vaulted ceilings, flooring, sticky notes, tape measurements. While you're moving a lot of pieces, switch off Show flooring, Show furniture labels and Show furniture dimensions; the canvas has far less to redraw. Reset to defaults puts everything back.

The trimmed plan
With flooring, labels and dimensions hidden the plan is just walls, openings and furniture outlines — fast to pan and zoom even with hundreds of pieces. Turn the layers back on for a presentation or an export.

3D: shadows off, standard quality
In the 3D view the bottom-right buttons control cost. Shadows is the single biggest speed-up — turn it off on a slower machine. The quality button switches between standard and high (ambient shading, sharper rendering); standard is plenty for checking a layout. Your plan is unchanged either way.

Close 3D when you're back to editing
The 3D view keeps rendering while it's open, even behind another tab. Press the red Close 3D view button as soon as you go back to the plan — it hands the graphics chip back to the browser and the 2D editor is instantly responsive again.

If the 3D view is interrupted
Very rarely — on a phone or tablet with little free memory, or a laptop under heavy load — the browser takes the graphics away from the page. RoomSketch3D catches it and shows The 3D view was interrupted — your device freed up memory. Your design is safe. Nothing is lost: press Back to editor and reopen the 3D view. If it keeps happening, close other tabs and apps first, or open the design in the app on your phone.

Back in 2D
After Back to editor you're on your plan exactly as you left it, saved as always. If the whole app won't load at all, the cause is almost always the network, not the browser — see Troubleshooting: loading and connection.
Tips
Laptops with two graphics chips
Some Windows laptops run the browser on the low-power chip by default. In Windows Graphics settings, set your browser to High performance and the 3D view runs on the dedicated GPU.
Multi-floor plans
In 3D, the Floors dropdown at the top left lets you show only the floor you're working on. Fewer floors visible means fewer walls and pieces to draw.
Common mistakes
Leaving 3D open in a background tab
It keeps rendering. Close the 3D view before switching tabs, or the 2D editor and other tabs feel sluggish.
Blaming the browser for a 'connection is not private' page
That message comes from the network between you and the app — hotel or office Wi-Fi with a sign-in page, a proxy, or a wrong device clock. Switch networks and it loads.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers does RoomSketch3D support?
Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox (current and previous version), plus Chromium-based browsers such as Brave, Arc, Vivaldi and Opera. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Why is the 3D view slow on my laptop?
3D rendering uses the graphics chip. Turn Shadows off and use standard quality (bottom-right buttons in 3D), hide floors you aren't working on, close other tabs, and close the 3D view when you're back to editing.
The 2D plan feels slow — what helps?
Open Layers and switch off flooring, furniture labels and furniture dimensions while you work. Reset to defaults restores them for exporting.
What does 'The 3D view was interrupted' mean?
The browser took the graphics away from the page, usually because the device ran low on memory. Your design is safe; press Back to editor and reopen 3D. Close other apps or tabs if it repeats.
Does the phone browser work, or do I need the app?
The web app works in mobile browsers, but the iPhone, iPad and Android apps render 3D natively and are much faster. Use the app on a phone or tablet.
I get a 'secure connection' or 'connection is not private' error — is the app down?
Almost never. That message comes from the network between you and the app: Wi-Fi with a sign-in page (hotels, airports, offices), a proxy or content filter, or a device clock that's wrong. Switch to cellular or another network and it loads. Full checklist in Troubleshooting: loading and connection.
