See your 3D view as a line drawing

Tick **Line art** and the 3D view becomes a black-on-white line drawing of your room. It sits beside **Dollhouse** on a computer or tablet, and in the bottom row of switches on a phone. **Save image** keeps the drawing.

Sometimes a clean drawing says more than color: to show a layout without anyone fixating on paint and fabrics, to sketch over by hand, or to print a coloring page of the new room for the kids. Line art draws the 3D view as black lines on white, like an interior sketch.

It's a way of looking at the 3D view, not a change to your design. Untick it and every color is back.

What you'll need

  • •A design you can open in the 3D view

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the 3D view

Open your design and click 3D View. Set up the view you want first if you like: drag to turn, scroll or pinch to zoom, tick Dollhouse for the whole home, or walk inside at eye level.

  2. 2

    Tick Line art

On a computer or tablet, Line art is at the top left of the 3D view, beside Dollhouse. Tick it.

  3. 3

    Before and after

The whole view redraws as black outlines on white: walls, doors, windows, furniture, bedding, lamps, even the drawer handles. Glass and see-through parts don't get lines.

Line art off: the normal 3D view.
  4. 4

The same view as a drawing

Everything still works the way it did: drag to turn, zoom, use Dollhouse, or walk through. The drawing follows the camera. While Line art is on, Shadows and High quality are switched off for you, because the drawing has no shading. Untick Line art and they come back the way you had them.

Line art on: the same view as a black-and-white sketch.
  5. 5

On a phone: the bottom row

The top of a phone screen only has room for Dollhouse, AI Render, Save image and ✕, so on a phone Line art is the last switch in the bottom row, after Ceiling, Shadows and High quality. If you can't see it, swipe that row sideways.

On a phone, Line art is at the end of the bottom row.
  6. 6

    Save the drawing

Tap Save image at the top right (on a phone, the picture icon left of ✕). The saved picture keeps the line drawing, without the buttons: a PNG download on a computer, or straight to Photos in the apps. See Save a picture of your 3D view.

The saved picture: the line drawing, ready to print or share.

Tips

Print a coloring page

Save a Line art picture of the new bedroom and print it. Kids can color in their own room before the move.

Sketch over it

Open the saved picture in a drawing app (or print it) and sketch ideas on top: a mural, shelving, a new light fitting.

Use Dollhouse for the whole home

Tick Dollhouse and Line art together for a drawing of every room at once, with the near walls cut away.

Common mistakes

Looking for Line art in Render Studio

Render Studio always photographs the room in color, because the AI needs the colors to make a render. Line art is only in the regular 3D view.

Expecting the 2D plan to change

Line art is for the 3D view only. For a black-and-white 2D plan, use Settings → Plan style → Black & white. See Blueprint black & white plan style.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Line art switch?

On a computer or tablet: at the top left of the 3D view, beside Dollhouse. On a phone: at the end of the bottom row of switches, after Ceiling, Shadows and High quality.

Does Line art change my design?

No. It only changes how the 3D view draws the room. Your plan, materials and exports stay exactly as they are; untick it to see the colors again.

Why did Shadows and High quality turn off?

A line drawing has no shading, so they're paused while Line art is on. Untick Line art and they come back the way you had them.

Can I save the line drawing?

Yes. Tap Save image while Line art is on; the picture keeps the drawing.

Can I make an AI render from the line drawing?

No. Render Studio always uses the color 3D view. Tapping AI Render opens it in color at the view you're looking at.

Some window frames have no outline. Why?

Glass gets no lines on purpose, and window trim that sits exactly flush with the wall can blend into the wall's outline. It's a known limit of the drawing.
