Split, slide, and resize walls exactly
Tap a wall and type its length, drag it to slide it, or tap the scissors on its bar, drag the pin to the spot and tap the scissors on the wall. Outside walls change on their own unless their link is on. All on the plan.
Rooms are rarely the size you first typed, and "about there" is how furniture ends up not fitting. RoomSketch3D gives you three exact ways to change a wall, all right on the plan: type its length, slide it, or split it at a measured point.
Splitting turns one wall into two independent walls, so you can push one piece out into a bump-out, set it back for an alcove, or delete just that stretch. Everything works on outer and interior walls, on a computer or a phone, and with the plan rotated. One thing to know first: an outside wall changes on its own unless you turn its link on, so the walls beside it stay put and any space that opens stays as a dashed gap (see Gaps in an outside wall).

Tap the wall
Tap any outside wall. A small bar appears beside it with its length, a padlock, a link button, scissors and a red trash can; a crosshair sits at each end and a + just beyond each end. Its settings panel, Exterior wall, opens below with Type: Wall | Railing | Open, Length, height, thickness, the load-bearing switch and Remove. (An outer wall's length is its outside length.)

Type a wall's length
Tap the length on the bar (or the Length field in the panel) and type the measurement you took: feet and inches, inches, or metres and centimetres; decimals are fine. Press Enter or tap the check mark. While you type, a yellow pin marks the end that stays put and an arrow marks the end that moves; tap the arrow to keep that end instead. With the link off (the usual setting) only this wall changes, and a shorter length leaves a dashed gap between the moved end and its old corner; turn the link on (Joined walls move too) and the wall beside that end comes along. Slide a wall by dragging it
With the wall selected, drag it in or out, or drag the crosshair at either end to change its length along its line. The measurements update live, so you can size a room by eye. By default the wall moves alone and dashed gaps open at its ends where the neighbours stayed; tap the link on its bar first (solid blue, Joined walls move too) if the walls it joins should stretch to follow. On a computer, Alt (Option on a Mac) while dragging does the opposite for that one drag. Outer walls follow the snapping button in the toolbar: on, the wall lines up with parallel walls as it comes close; off, it goes exactly where you drag it.

Split a wall at an exact spot
Select the wall and tap the scissors on its bar (for an interior wall, tap ⋯ on its bar first). A blue note at the top says Drag the pin along the wall, then tap the scissors to split. Drag the pin's round head along the wall; its tip marks the exact spot. Dots mark where other walls meet this one (tap one to jump there), and stretches inside a door or window show in red because they can't be split. The distance from each end of the wall shows as you go; tap a distance and type it for an exact spot. Then tap the scissors on the wall. To back out, tap the small × beside the pin.

Work with the pieces
Each piece is now its own wall, with the same height, thickness, paint and name, and doors and windows stay where they were. Select a piece to drag it out into a bump-out, type its length, split it again, turn it into a railing, or tap its trash can to open that stretch (it leaves a dashed gap you can fill again with its +). A split wall's two new lengths aren't held until you type them.
Each piece is its own wall.
Tips
Measure the wall you can actually reach
Type the length for the wall you measured with the tape. Turn the link on first if the walls beside it should follow; leave it off to change just that wall.
Split where the real corner will be
Typing the split distance is how you set up a bay, a bump-out, or a future addition exactly, without dragging.
Lock what's right
Tap the padlock next to a length you've measured and confirmed. Nothing else can change it, and a locked wall can't be split until you unlock it.
Common mistakes
Dragging when you know the number
If you have a measurement, type it. Dragging is for sizing by eye.
Looking for a Split button
Split is the scissors on the bar beside the selected wall (behind ⋯ for an interior wall). The old Edit Floor Plan Shape editor and its Split Walls tool are gone.
Expecting the next wall to follow
Outside walls change on their own unless their link is on. If a drag or a typed length left a dashed gap, Undo, tap the link so it reads Joined walls move too, and try again, or fill the gap with its +.
Splitting inside a door or window
Red stretches can't be split. The note at the top says why: Not inside a door, window, balcony or bay or Too close to the corner. Slide the pin a little.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a wall an exact length?
Yes. Tap the wall and type the length on its bar or in its settings panel. It applies exactly. With the link off only that wall changes (a shorter length leaves a dashed gap at the moved end); with the link on the wall at that end comes along.
How do I split a wall at a precise point?
Select the wall, tap the scissors on its bar (⋯ then scissors for an interior wall), tap one of the two distances that appear and type how far from that end you want the split, then tap the scissors on the wall.
What happens to doors and windows when I split a wall?
They stay exactly where they were. You can't split inside a door, window, balcony or bay; those stretches show in red.
Why did a dashed line appear when I slid a wall?
That's a gap: the wall moved on its own and the walls beside it stayed. Tap the gap and its + to fill it with a wall, or Undo, turn the link on and slide again so the neighbours stretch. See Gaps in an outside wall.
What happens to the room when I slide a wall?
The rooms on either side resize, measurements update live, and furniture stays in place. If a piece ends up in a wall, Smart Flow Check points it out.
