Upload custom symbols — panels, HVAC units, appliances

Add a PNG to My Library and it becomes a placeable, colorable symbol that works with circuit lines and exports.

The built-in symbol packs cover the common electrical, plumbing, HVAC, telecom, and security markup. When you need a specific item — a particular breaker panel, a mini-split, an EV charger, a job-specific marker — you can upload your own image and use it exactly like a built-in symbol.

Uploads live in My Library in the Symbols panel and follow your account, so a symbol you add on one plan is waiting on the next.

What you'll need

  • A PNG or WebP with a transparent background (up to the size limit shown in the dialog)

Step by step

  1. 1

Open Symbols and tap Upload custom symbol

In the right-hand Symbols tab, tap Upload custom symbol (it sits above My Library; an empty library shows Upload a transparent PNG to keep your own symbols handy across every plan).

Upload custom symbol sits above My Library.
  2. 2

Pick the image, name it, set a default size

In the Upload symbol dialog choose the Image (PNG or WebP, transparent background) — tap Tap to pick a PNG/WebP — and check the preview. Give it a Name (this is the label it shows on the plan), set its Default size on plan (inches) — you can resize after placing — and, optionally, a Category such as Plumbing or a job number to keep a big library tidy. Tap Upload.

Three fields: image, name, default size. Category is optional.
  3. 3

    Find it under My Library

The new tile appears under My Library with your image as its thumbnail. It is part of your account, not this design — every plan you open will list it.

Uploads persist across all your plans.
  4. 4

    Place it

Tap the tile, tap +Add, and the symbol drops at the centre of the room; drag it where it belongs. Select it to resize, pick a colour, or Show label below symbol.

Custom symbols place and edit exactly like built-ins.
  5. 5

    Use it in a circuit

Custom symbols are first-class: arm Circuit line, tap the outlet that feeds it and then the upload, and press Enter — the run is numbered and follows the symbol if you move it. Uploads appear in every export, including the Electrical plan style.

Uploads work with circuit lines and every export.
  6. 6

Remove one you no longer need

Hover (or long-press) a tile under My Library and use its delete control; you'll be asked to confirm Remove "name" from your library?. Symbols already placed on plans are not affected.

Removing from the library doesn't touch placed copies.

Tips

Transparent background, square-ish canvas

A PNG with alpha and a little padding scales cleanly at any size and reads well on both the colour and black-and-white plan styles.

Name it the way you'd say it

The name is the on-plan label and what search matches — Panel 200A beats IMG_4233.

Set the default size to the real footprint

A 24-inch panel uploaded at 24 inches drops at scale every time; adjust per placement only when you must.

Common mistakes

Uploading a JPEG

JPEGs have no transparency, so the symbol arrives as a white box. The dialog only accepts PNG or WebP for that reason.

Expecting the upload to be per-design

My Library is account-wide. Deleting the design does not delete the symbol, and deleting the symbol does not remove placed copies.

Frequently asked questions

Where do uploaded symbols live?

Under My Library at the top of the Symbols panel. They are stored with your account, so they appear on every plan you open.

What image formats are accepted?

PNG or WebP, ideally with a transparent background. The dialog shows the maximum file size and the allowed dimension range for the default size.

Can I connect a custom symbol into a circuit line?

Yes. Uploads behave exactly like built-in symbols — resize, colour, label, and link them into circuit lines.
