Sign in on a computer with your phone
On the computer, open app.roomsketch3d.com/link (or click Sign in with your phone on the sign-in page). In the RoomSketch3D app on your phone, go to Settings ▸ Link a computer, scan the code (or type the short code) and tap Sign in. The computer opens your own account, with every design, in a few seconds.
The quickest way to get your designs onto a computer is to let your phone sign the computer in. You don't type an email, a password or a sign-in code on the computer. You show a code on the computer screen, point the RoomSketch3D app at it, and approve. A few seconds later the computer opens Home with every design you have on the phone.
It also solves the most common account mix-up. Plenty of people sign up on iPhone with Continue with Apple and Apple's Hide My Email, then sign in on the computer with their real email and land in a second, empty account with no purchase. Linking can't go wrong that way: the phone signs the computer in to the phone's own account, whatever sign-in method that account uses.
There are two sides to it. On the computer you open app.roomsketch3d.com/link, which shows a square code and a short eight-character code. On the phone you use Settings ▸ Link a computer, which only exists in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, because the phone's camera does the scanning. The steps below go through both, then show what to do if the code won't scan, how to check every device that's signed in, and how to sign one out.
What you'll need
- •The RoomSketch3D app on an iPhone, iPad or Android phone, already signed in to your account
- •A computer (or a tablet's web browser) with an internet connection
Step by step
- 1
On the computer, click Sign in with your phone
Go to app.roomsketch3d.com in any browser on your computer. On the sign-in page, under Email me a sign-in code, click Sign in with your phone. You can also type app.roomsketch3d.com/link straight into the address bar; it's the same page. The button is only on computers and tablets. A phone's own web browser doesn't show it, because a phone signs in the normal way (and opening /link on a phone says On a phone, sign in here instead, with a Sign in on this phone button). If you're already signed in on the computer, /link simply takes you to your designs.
The last button on the computer's sign-in page opens the phone sign-in. - 2
Leave the code on the screen
The page, Sign in with your phone, lists the three steps (Open RoomSketch3D on your phone, Go to Settings ▸ Link a computer, Scan this code, or type the code below), then shows a square code and, under it, Or type this code on your phone with a short code such as 8XCQ-8HHZ. Waiting for your phone… pulses underneath. Leave the page open while you pick up your phone. Each code works for five minutes. If it runs out before you scan it, the page puts up a fresh code by itself, so just scan whatever is on screen. The short code uses letters and numbers that can't be confused (no 0 and O, no 1, I or L). Sign in another way at the bottom goes back to the normal sign-in page.
app.roomsketch3d.com/link: a square code to scan and a short code to type, valid for five minutes. - 3
On your phone, open Settings ▸ Link a computer
Open the RoomSketch3D app on your phone, tap your avatar (your initial, top right), then Settings. Settings opens on the Account tab. Under your name and email, tap Link a computer (Sign in on a computer by scanning a code with this phone). The row is only in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Settings in a web browser doesn't have it, since the scanner needs the app.
In the phone app: avatar → Settings → Account tab → Link a computer. - 4
Scan the code (iPhone and iPad)
On iPhone and iPad the camera opens straight away, full screen, titled Scan the code, with On the computer, open app.roomsketch3d.com/link. above it. Point it at the code on the computer screen. It reads the code by itself as soon as the whole square is in view; there's no button to press. The first time, allow camera access when the phone asks. The ✕ at the top left closes the scanner and takes you back to Settings. Type the code instead at the bottom switches to typing (next steps). If camera access was turned off, the app says Live scanning isn't available. Turn on camera access for RoomSketch3D in your phone's Settings, or type the code instead. Turn it on in the phone's own Settings → RoomSketch3D → Camera, or type the code.
iPhone and iPad: the scanner opens on its own and reads the code the moment it's in view. - 5
Scan or type the code (Android)
On Android, the Link a computer page shows Sign in on a computer without typing a password. On the computer, open app.roomsketch3d.com/link., a Scan the code button and Type the code instead. Tap Scan the code and the phone's camera opens (your phone may first ask whether to take a photo or pick one). Take a picture of the code on the computer screen and the app reads it from the photo. If it says No code found in that photo, hold the phone steady, fill the frame with the square code and try again. Glare on a glossy laptop screen is the usual cause; tilting the phone slightly gets rid of it. The same screen appears on an iPhone or iPad if live scanning isn't available.
Android: Scan the code takes a photo of the computer's code; or type it instead. - 6
No camera handy? Type the short code
Tap Type the code instead. A box labelled Code shown on the computer appears: type the eight characters from under the square code (capitals or small letters, with or without the dash, both work) and tap Continue. If it says That code isn't valid or has expired, check the computer: the code may have been replaced by a fresh one, so type the new one. After ten wrong codes within 15 minutes, typing pauses with Too many wrong codes. Wait 15 minutes, or scan the code instead. Scanning still works in the meantime.
Typing works just as well as scanning: the eight characters, then Continue. - 7
Check which computer is asking, then tap Sign in
Before anything is signed in, the phone asks Sign in on this computer? and shows the browser and system (for example Chrome on Mac), roughly where it is (Near Sunnyvale, United States) and its internet address (blurred in the picture). The note below reads Only approve a computer that's in front of you right now. It will be able to open and change your designs. If the computer appears to be in a different country from your phone, the note turns red: Careful: this computer is in …, a different country from this phone. If you aren't sitting at it right now, don't sign in. That's the tell-tale sign of a code someone else sent you to approve. A rough location can be off by a town or two, since it comes from the computer's internet connection, but a different country deserves a second look. If it's the computer in front of you, tap Sign in. If not, tap Don't sign in.
The phone names the browser and rough location before you approve it. - 8
The phone confirms, and the computer opens your designs
The phone shows Computer signed in (Your designs are opening on the computer now.) with a Link another computer button. On the computer the page reads Signed in. Opening your designs… and, a second or two later, Home opens with your Your Designs list, your purchase, your tags and the Recycle Bin, exactly as on the phone. It's the same account, so anything you change on one shows up on the other. The computer then stays signed in like any other sign-in, until you sign it out. Each code can be used once; to sign in a second computer, show a code on that one and tap Link another computer.
The phone confirms the sign-in and offers to link another computer. - 9
Your designs are on the computer
Here is the computer a moment after approving: Home with Pick up where you left off and the full Your Designs list (885 designs on this test account). Open any design and keep working with a mouse, keyboard shortcuts and a big screen; when you pick the phone up again, the same plan is there.
The computer opens Home on your own account, with every design from the phone. - 10
Tapped Don't sign in? Nothing was signed in
If you tap Don't sign in, the phone shows Sign-in stopped (The computer was not signed in.) with Link another computer. Nothing on your account changes, and the code can't be used again.
On the phone, Don't sign in ends with Sign-in stopped: nothing was signed in. - 11
On the computer: Show a new code
The computer then shows Sign-in was declined on your phone. with a Show a new code button. If it was your own computer after all, click it and scan again. Two other messages can appear in the same place, both with Show a new code: Too many codes requested. Wait a few minutes and try again. (a lot of codes were asked for from the same internet connection within ten minutes) and Something went wrong. Check your connection and try again.
After Don't sign in, the computer says so and offers a fresh code. - 12
Every computer signed in this way sends you an email
Each time a computer is signed in with Link a computer, the account's email gets a security notice, in your app's language, with the subject New sign-in to RoomSketch3D: followed by the computer (for example Chrome on Mac). It's headed A computer was signed in to your account and lists the Computer, When, Where and Internet address. If it was you, there's nothing to do. If it wasn't, its Review signed-in devices button opens Settings on the Account tab, where you can sign that computer out (next step). These notices are always sent, because they're about your account's security. If your account uses Apple's Hide My Email, the notice goes to the relay address and Apple forwards it to your real inbox.

See every signed-in device in Settings ▸ Account
On any device, open avatar → Settings; the Account tab has Signed-in devices (Everywhere your account is signed in. Sign out of any device you don't recognize.). Each row shows the browser and system (Chrome on Mac, Safari on iPhone) or RoomSketch3D app on iPhone or Android, roughly where it was signed in and its internet address, and Active now or Last active with how long ago. The device you're using is first, with a This device badge. Sign-ins from before this list existed show Location unknown. The round-arrow Refresh button at the top right of the list picks up a device that has just signed in, without leaving the page.
Settings ▸ Account ▸ Signed-in devices: what's signed in, where, and when it was last used. - 14
Sign out one device, or all the others
Click Sign out on any other device's row to sign just that one out. Sign out of all other devices signs out everywhere except where you are; it asks first (Sign out of 2 other devices? with Cancel and Sign out). A signed-out device goes back to the sign-in page the next time it does anything, so it can't keep working in your account. The device you're holding has no Sign out button in the list, so you can't sign yourself out by accident. To sign out where you are, use avatar → Sign out. Signing out never deletes a design.
Sign out of all other devices asks you to confirm before it signs anything out.
Tips
The answer to "how do I get my designs on my computer?"
If your designs are on your phone, link the computer from the phone. You don't need to remember whether you used Google, Apple or an email code, and you can't land in an empty second account. Designs aren't copied or exported: the computer opens the same account, so there's one set of designs everywhere.
Borrowed or shared computer? Sign out when you're done
Linking is safe on a computer that isn't yours, but remember to sign it out afterwards: avatar → Sign out on that computer, or later from your phone in Settings ▸ Account ▸ Signed-in devices. Either way your designs stay on your account.
Scanning off a laptop screen
Turn the screen brightness up, hold the phone 20–40 cm (8–16 inches) away so the whole square fits, and tilt slightly to avoid reflections. If it still won't read, typing the eight-character code takes ten seconds.
Works for a tablet's browser too
An iPad or Android tablet's web browser gets the Sign in with your phone button like a computer. (On an iPad you can also just install the RoomSketch3D app.)
Check the email that follows
Every linked computer triggers a New sign-in to RoomSketch3D email. Seeing one you didn't expect is the signal to open Signed-in devices and sign that computer out.
Common mistakes
Approving a code someone sent you
Only tap Sign in for a computer that's in front of you right now. Someone who gets you to approve their code, by sending you a picture of it or asking for “the code from your app”, would be signed in to your account and could open and change your designs. Support will never ask you to scan or approve a code. If you approved one by mistake, sign it out in Settings ▸ Account ▸ Signed-in devices and email roomsketch3d@immex.tech.
Looking for Link a computer in a web browser
The scanner is only in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Settings in Safari or Chrome doesn't have the row, and the phone's own Camera app won't sign anything in either: the code is made to be read by the RoomSketch3D app only.
Opening app.roomsketch3d.com/link on the phone
The /link page goes on the computer. On a phone it just says to sign in on the phone instead. Open it on the computer, and use the app's Settings on the phone.
Signing in on the computer a different way first
If you already signed in on the computer with another method and see an empty design list, you're in a second account. Click the avatar → Sign out on the computer, then use Sign in with your phone. Nothing is lost; see Designs missing after signing in.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know my password or which sign-in I used?
No. RoomSketch3D has no passwords, and with Link a computer you don't need to remember whether you used Google, Apple or an email code. The phone signs the computer in to the account the phone is already in.
Where is Link a computer in the app?
Avatar (top right) → Settings → Account tab → Link a computer, just under your name and email. It's in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps only.
How long does the code last?
Five minutes, and each one works once. The computer replaces an expired code by itself while the page is open; scan the one on screen.
My phone won't read the code. What else can I do?
Tap Type the code instead and enter the eight characters under the square code, then Continue. Dashes and capitals don't matter.
Can I sign in my phone's browser this way?
No. Linking signs in a computer or a tablet's browser. On a phone, the /link page offers Sign in on this phone and you sign in the normal way.
Is the computer a separate account? Do I need to buy again?
No and no. It's the same account as your phone, so the purchase, every design, your tags and your Recycle Bin are all there.
Why did I get a “New sign-in to RoomSketch3D” email?
A computer was just signed in to your account with Link a computer. If it was you, ignore it. If not, open Settings ▸ Account ▸ Signed-in devices, sign that computer out, and let us know at roomsketch3d@immex.tech.
How do I sign out a computer I'm not sitting at?
From any other signed-in device: Settings ▸ Account ▸ Signed-in devices, then Sign out on that computer's row (or Sign out of all other devices). It's signed out the next time it does anything.
The location on the phone looks wrong. Is that a problem?
The location is a rough guess from the computer's internet connection, so a neighbouring town is normal (and work or VPN connections can show somewhere else entirely). A different country in red is the case to take seriously: don't approve unless you're sure it's your computer.
