Change the countertop on cabinets, islands and vanities

Select a base cabinet, island, sink or vanity and open its **Counter Top** tab (or tap the **Countertop** button on simpler pieces). Pick one of 16 materials in the gallery, tap **Apply** for that piece or **Apply countertop to all cabinets & islands** for the whole kitchen, and open 3D to see it. Vanities have the same choices and their own **Apply countertop to all vanities**.

Looking for the countertop designs? They're on the cabinets themselves. Every piece that carries a counter, from a base cabinet to an island to a bathroom vanity, has its own countertop choice, and one more tap gives the same material to every counter in the room.

You can pick from 16 materials: White quartz, Carrara marble, Crema marble, Travertine, Terrazzo, Beige granite, Speckled granite, Black granite, Dark marble, Verde marble, Butcher block, Maple butcher block, Walnut butcher block, Concrete, Stainless steel and Slate laminate. Until you choose, kitchen counters are a plain Standard gray and vanity tops a Standard white, which is how every design looked before, so nothing in your saved plans changes on its own.

The screenshots use the U-Shape Kitchen with Island and Master Bathroom templates (New design → Pre-designed layouts).

What you'll need

  • •A design with a base cabinet, kitchen island, kitchen sink, dishwasher or bathroom vanity on it (any kitchen or bathroom template works)

Step by step

  1. 1

Select a base cabinet and open the Counter Top tab

Tap a base cabinet on the plan. Its panel has four tabs: Finish, Counter Top, Hardware and Doors & Shelves. Tap Counter Top. The tab holds one control, Countertop, which reads Standard gray until you choose a material. The same tab is on every base cabinet, corner cabinet and sink base, on the Countertop Slab 48", and on bathroom vanities. On a phone, tap More options in the item's panel to see the tabs.

Counter Top is the second tab on a base cabinet. The Countertop button shows the current material.
  2. 2

On a phone, tap More options first

On a phone the panel opens as a short sheet with the name, size and rotation. Tap More options at the bottom of the sheet to reveal the four tabs, then tap Counter Top. Everything after this, the gallery and the apply-to-all buttons, is the same as on a computer.

Phone: More options, then Counter Top.
  3. 3

Pick a material in the gallery and tap Apply

Tap the Countertop button to open the gallery. Each card is a photo of the material with its name under it. Tap one to choose it (it gets a blue border), then tap Apply. Nothing changes until you tap Apply, so you can scroll through all 16 first. The first card, Standard gray, puts a piece back to the plain top. To back out without changing anything, close the gallery with the ×.

    Tap a material, then Apply.
  4. 4

    See it in 3D

Open 3D. The cabinet's counter shows the material from real stone, wood and metal photography, at its real size, so marble veins and wood grain look the way they would on the actual slab. In this kitchen only the 36" base cabinet by the range got Carrara marble; the corner cabinet next to it followed along. The next step explains why. The plan view doesn't draw the material: a cabinet with its own countertop is filled in its cabinet colour on the plan, and the pattern shows in 3D.

Carrara marble on one cabinet and the corner cabinet it touches; everything else still Standard gray.
  5. 5

Pieces in the same run follow their neighbour

A counter piece that has no material of its own takes the material of the run it belongs to: any base cabinet, sink, dishwasher or island that touches a piece with a chosen countertop shows that same countertop. So a dishwasher dropped into a marble run is marble too, with no grey gap. Its panel says Matches counter (Carrara marble) while it's following. A material you pick for a piece yourself always wins. The island here isn't touching the run, so it stays Standard gray.

The corner cabinet has no material of its own; it matches the marble cabinet it touches.
  6. 6

Give the whole kitchen one countertop

Tap the island. An island's panel has fewer options, so there are no tabs: the Countertop button sits right in the panel, next to Cabinet finish. Kitchen sinks and the dishwasher work the same way. Tap Countertop, choose the material, then tap Apply countertop to all cabinets & islands instead of Apply.

On an island the Countertop button is right in the panel.
  7. 7

    Confirm with a second tap

The button turns orange and reads Tap again to confirm, with a note above it: Apply this countertop to EVERY cabinet and island on this floor? If you have more than one kitchen, they all get this material. Tap it again to go ahead. The second tap is there so a whole kitchen never changes by accident; tap Apply instead to change just this one piece. "This floor" is exactly that: every base cabinet, island, sink and dishwasher on the floor you're looking at. Other floors keep their counters, and so do bathroom vanities, even on the same floor.

One tap arms it, the second tap applies it.
  8. 8

    Check the result in 3D

Open 3D again: every counter in the kitchen, the island included, is now the same material, running as one continuous surface across each cabinet run. The sink basin and the range stay as they are; only the counter changes.

Carrara marble throughout, after Apply countertop to all cabinets & islands.
  9. 9

A different top on the island

Want a wood island in a stone kitchen? Select the island, tap Countertop, choose Walnut butcher block (or any other) and tap Apply, not the apply-to-all button. Only the island changes. A material chosen on a piece stays until you change it, even if you later run apply-to-all from another cabinet: apply-to-all writes the new material on every piece, so run it first and set the island after.

Bathroom vanities: the same gallery, their own apply-to-all

Open the bathroom and tap a vanity. Its panel has the same tabs; tap Counter Top. The button reads Standard white, the plain white top vanities have always had. Tap it, choose a material and tap Apply. Vanities are a separate family from the kitchen: picking granite for the kitchen never re-tops the bathroom, and the vanity's button is Apply countertop to all vanities, with its own note: Apply this countertop to EVERY vanity on this floor? If you have more than one bathroom, they all get this material. The basins stay white porcelain whatever top you choose. Pedestal Sink and Console Sink have no countertop, so they have no Counter Top tab.

  11. 11

Apply it to every vanity on the floor

In the gallery, tap Apply countertop to all vanities, then Tap again to confirm. Every vanity on this floor gets the material; kitchen counters are untouched.

Vanities have their own apply-to-all, so the kitchen never changes with them.
  12. 12

    See the vanity in 3D

Open 3D. The vanity top shows the material with the white basins set into it. Pair it with the vanity's Finish tab (painted colours or real wood for the cabinet) and Hardware tab (pulls and knobs; the tap matches the hardware finish) for the whole look.

Tips

Do apply-to-all first, then the exceptions

Apply-to-all writes the material on every counter piece on the floor, including ones you had set by hand. Give the kitchen its main material first, then pick the island's or the bar's different top.

Countertops are per floor

Apply-to-all covers the floor you're on. A kitchen on another floor, or a second kitchen on the same floor, is included only if it's on this floor. Check the floor picker at the top left before you confirm.

Back to the plain top

Pick Standard gray (or Standard white on a vanity) in the gallery and tap Apply. The piece goes back to the default and, if it touches a run with a material, follows that run again.

Counters show in 3D, in saved 3D images and in AI renders

The material appears in the 3D view, in the image you get from Save image in the 3D view, and in AI renders, which start from your 3D view. Plan images, PDFs and prints are drawings of the plan, so they don't show the material. For sharper stone and wood texture in 3D, turn on High quality in the 3D toolbar.

Common mistakes

Looking for countertops in the catalog or Materials panel

The countertop is a property of the cabinet, not a separate catalog item or a floor/wall material. Select the cabinet, island, sink or vanity and look in its panel. The one countertop item in the catalog, Countertop Slab 48" (search "countertop"), is for bar tops, laundry counters and bridging over a dishwasher; it takes the same materials.

Picking a material on a wall or tall cabinet

Wall cabinets, tall pantries and oven cabinets have no counter, so they have no Counter Top tab. Pick the material on the base cabinets under them.

Tapping apply-to-all once and wondering why nothing happened

The first tap only arms the button (it turns orange and reads Tap again to confirm). Tap it a second time. Closing the gallery with the × cancels.

Expecting the kitchen to change the bathroom

Kitchen counters and vanity tops are applied separately on purpose. Set each with its own apply-to-all.

Expecting the plan to show the stone

The 2D plan is a drawing; a cabinet with a chosen countertop is filled in its cabinet colour there. The material itself shows in 3D.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the countertop designs?

In the panel of any piece that has a counter. Tap a base cabinet, kitchen island, kitchen sink, dishwasher or bathroom vanity, open its Counter Top tab (on a phone, tap More options first) and tap the Countertop button to open the gallery of 16 materials. Islands, sinks and dishwashers show the Countertop button straight in the panel.

How do I change the countertop on all the cabinets at once?

Select any base cabinet or island, open the Countertop gallery, choose the material and tap Apply countertop to all cabinets & islands, then Tap again to confirm. Every base cabinet, island, sink and dishwasher on that floor gets it.

Can the island have a different countertop from the cabinets?

Yes. Give the kitchen its material with apply-to-all first, then select the island, pick its own material and tap Apply (not the apply-to-all button). Each piece can have its own material.

Does the kitchen countertop change the bathroom vanity too?

No. Vanities are their own family with their own Apply countertop to all vanities button, so a kitchen choice never re-tops the bathroom and the other way round.

Which materials can I choose?

White quartz, Carrara marble, Crema marble, Travertine, Terrazzo, Beige granite, Speckled granite, Black granite, Dark marble, Verde marble, Butcher block, Maple butcher block, Walnut butcher block, Concrete, Stainless steel and Slate laminate, plus the plain Standard gray (Standard white on vanities).

Does the countertop show in the photo-real render?

Yes. AI renders start from your 3D view, which shows the chosen countertop, so the render keeps it. The 3D view's Save image does too. Plan images and PDFs are 2D drawings and don't show the material.

Why does a dishwasher I just added show marble?

A piece with no material of its own matches the run it touches. Its panel reads Matches counter (…) while it's following. Pick a material on it yourself if you want something different.

Will my existing designs change?

No. A counter keeps its Standard gray (or a vanity its Standard white) until you choose a material for it or run apply-to-all on its floor.

Can I upload a photo of my own countertop?

Not today. Pick the closest of the 16 materials; for an exact product, an AI render of the room can help you picture it.
