Measure your room by walking it: AR scan on iPhone

On iPhone, you don't have to type dimensions at all — walk the room with the camera and RoomSketch3D builds the floor plan.

Updated 2026-06-10

On iPhone (with LiDAR), you don't have to type any dimensions — walk around the room with the camera, and RoomSketch3D builds the floor plan from what it sees.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the iPhone app

Tap AR Scan on the home screen, OR from New Design → Scan Room (AR).

  2. 2

Hold the phone at chest height

Camera pointing at the floor and walls, screen facing you. Start in one corner of the room.

  3. 3

    Walk slowly around the perimeter

Keep the camera facing the wall in front of you. The app traces the floor and walls as you walk. A green outline shows what's been captured.

  4. 4

    Complete the loop

Walk all the way around until you return to where you started. The app closes the polygon automatically.

  5. 5

    Review and edit

The room appears in the editor. Walls are correctly sized; you can refine any inaccuracies by editing wall lengths or dragging corners.

Tips

Good light helps

AR scanning relies on the camera. Bright rooms scan more accurately than dim ones.

Move slowly

Sudden movements lose tracking. Slow and steady wins.

Frequently asked questions

Does AR scanning work on Android?

Currently iPhone with LiDAR only (Pro models and recent iPads). Android scanning is on the roadmap.

How accurate is AR scanning?

±2–3 inches typical on a well-lit room. Best to verify wall lengths against a few real measurements afterward.
